About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

Experience a new level of ride quality with Progressive 444 Series shocks for your Harley-Davidson. Featuring proprietary Frequency Sensing Technology (FST), these shocks dynamically adjust damping on the fly, providing a smooth and controlled ride over varied terrain.

Why riders pick this

  • Frequency Sensing Technology (FST) for dynamic damping
  • Deflective disc valving for consistent feel
  • Hand-adjustable spring preload without special tools
  • Available in Standard or Heavy Duty rates
  • Premium chrome finish for classic V-twin style
  • Made in USA with a Limited Lifetime Warranty

Progressive 444 shocks automatically respond to both small road imperfections and large impacts, thanks to their innovative FST which optimizes oil flow for consistent performance. With hand-adjustable spring preload, you can easily fine-tune your suspension without special tools, ensuring your bike is set up perfectly for your riding style and load.

Common questions

What is Frequency Sensing Technology (FST)?

FST is a proprietary technology that allows the shocks to dynamically adjust damping based on the frequency of bumps. This means the shocks automatically respond differently to small road chatter versus large impacts, providing a consistently smooth and controlled ride.

Do these shocks require special tools for adjustment?

No, the spring preload on these Progressive 444 shocks is hand-adjustable, meaning you can easily fine-tune them without needing any specialized tools.

How do I ensure these fit my specific Harley-Davidson model?

Progressive offers various configurations for different Harley-Davidson chassis types. We recommend using our Shop by Bike tool or contacting our support team with your specific year and model to confirm compatibility before ordering.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
