Frequently Asked Questions

What does Frequency Sensing Technology do?

FST senses bump frequency and automatically adjusts oil flow through internal ports to match the road input, keeping the bike composed on both small ripples and large hits.

Can I adjust the preload myself?

Yes—Progressive designed the 444 with a threaded top-mount adjuster you can turn by hand. No special tools or shop visit needed.

What's the difference between standard and heavy-duty spring rates?

Heavy-duty springs support more weight (passenger, luggage, or heavier riders) with less sag. Standard is suitable for solo riding or lighter loads.

Are these shocks made in the USA?

Yes—Progressive manufactures the 444 Series in the USA and backs them with a limited lifetime warranty.

Do I need new mounting hardware for installation?

Confirm fitment with your specific Harley model and year. Some models may reuse stock mounts; others may require brackets. Check the fitment tag or contact support.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
