About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

Progressive 444 Series shocks for Harley-Davidson motorcycles are equipped with Frequency Sensing Technology (FST), which dynamically adjusts damping as you ride. This ensures a consistently smooth feel, regardless of the size of the bumps you encounter.

Why riders pick this

  • FST auto-adjusts damping based on bump frequency
  • Deflective disc valving for progressive damping
  • Hand-adjustable spring preload, no special tools needed
  • Available in standard or heavy-duty spring rates
  • Choose from black or chrome finish options

Transform your ride with these high-performance shocks, engineered to provide an unparalleled level of comfort and control. The FST system constantly adapts to road conditions, delivering a plush response to minor road imperfections and robust support for larger impacts. This intelligent damping minimizes harshness and enhances your connection to the road.

Dynamic Damping for Unmatched Comfort

  • Frequency Sensing Technology (FST) auto-adjusts damping based on bump frequency
  • Deflective disc valving provides precise and progressive damping
  • Hand-adjustable spring preload allows for easy, tool-free tuning
  • Available in standard or heavy-duty spring rates for tailored support

Personalize Your Ride

The 444 Series shocks are designed with versatility in mind. The hand-adjustable preload makes it simple to fine-tune your suspension to match your load and riding style. Whether you prefer a black or chrome finish, these shocks not only enhance your Harley-Davidson's performance but also complement its aesthetic, making them a complete upgrade for any V-twin rider.

Common questions

What is Frequency Sensing Technology and how does it work?

FST in Progressive 444 Series shocks senses the frequency of road bumps and automatically adjusts the damping in real time, ensuring a smooth and controlled ride across varying road conditions.

Can I install these shocks myself?

While these shocks are designed for straightforward installation, we recommend consulting a service manual or professional if you are unsure. Confirm fitment with Shop by Bike before ordering.

Will these shocks change the ride height of my bike?

The 444 Series shocks are typically designed as direct replacements. However, shock length and mounting points can vary by specific Harley-Davidson model and year. Always confirm fitment with Shop by Bike to ensure correct length and compatibility.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
