About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

The Progressive 444 Series shocks for Harley-Davidson feature patented Frequency Sensing Technology (FST), which dynamically adjusts damping in real time. This intelligent system ensures a composed and comfortable ride, responding effectively to both minor road imperfections and significant impacts.

Why riders pick this

  • FST auto-adjusts damping to bump frequency
  • Deflective disc valving for progressive response
  • Hand-adjustable preload, no special tools needed
  • Provides a composed, comfortable ride experience

These shocks are designed to provide a superior ride experience for your V-twin. With hand-adjustable preload, riders can easily customize their suspension setup without the need for special tools. The deflective disc valving further refines the damping response, contributing to a stable and controlled feel across various riding conditions.

Adaptive Performance for Your Ride

  • Frequency Sensing Technology (FST) for auto-adjusting damping
  • Deflective disc valving ensures a progressive rate response
  • Hand-adjustable spring preload for tool-free tuning
  • Engineered to handle both small bumps and large hits effectively

Refined Control and Comfort

Whether you're commuting or touring, the 444 Series shocks deliver consistent performance. The ability to quickly adjust preload allows you to optimize your bike's stance and comfort for different loads, ensuring a personalized and confidence-inspiring ride every time you hit the road on your Harley-Davidson.

Common questions

How does Frequency Sensing Technology (FST) benefit my ride?

FST dynamically adjusts damping in real time by sensing bump frequency. This means your shocks automatically provide softer damping for small road chatter and firmer damping for larger impacts, improving overall comfort and control.

Can I adjust the spring preload on these shocks without tools?

Yes, the Progressive 444 Series shocks are designed with hand-adjustable spring preload, allowing you to easily fine-tune your suspension settings without needing any special tools.

Are these shocks available in different spring rates?

Yes, these shocks are typically available in both standard and heavy-duty spring rates to accommodate different rider weights, passenger loads, and riding styles. Please confirm your selection when ordering.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
