About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

Progressive 444 Series shocks bring advanced suspension tech to your Harley-Davidson, using Frequency Sensing Technology (FST) to automatically adjust damping on the fly. This means a more compliant ride over everything from minor road ripples to significant impacts. Riders can easily fine-tune their setup with hand-adjustable preload.

Why riders pick this

  • Frequency Sensing Technology (FST) for dynamic damping
  • Deflective disc valving for progressive response
  • Hand-adjustable preload without special tools
  • Available in standard or heavy-duty spring rates
  • Choice of black or chrome finish

These Progressive 444 Series shocks are engineered to transform your Harley-Davidson's ride quality. With Frequency Sensing Technology (FST), the shocks dynamically adapt their damping characteristics to the road conditions, providing a plush feel over small bumps while firming up for larger hits. This intelligent system ensures consistent comfort and control without requiring manual adjustments while riding.

Adaptive Damping for Superior Ride Quality

  • Frequency Sensing Technology (FST) automatically adjusts damping in real time
  • Deflective disc valving provides a progressive damping curve
  • Hand-adjustable spring preload allows for easy tuning without special tools
  • Available in standard or heavy-duty spring rates to match your load and style
  • Choose from a sleek black or classic chrome finish

Engineered for the Open Road

The 444 Series shocks are a direct upgrade for Harley-Davidson owners looking to improve their bike's handling and comfort. Whether you're cruising solo or loaded down for a long haul, the available spring rates and easy preload adjustment ensure optimal performance. These shocks are a solid foundation for any rider serious about their V-twin's suspension performance.

Common questions

FST in the Progressive 444 shocks automatically adjusts the damping based on the frequency and size of bumps, providing a smooth ride over varied road conditions without manual intervention.

Are these shocks difficult to install?

Installation typically involves basic hand tools and can be done by a competent mechanic. The hand-adjustable preload also means no special tools are needed for ride tuning.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
