Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.
The Progressive 444 Series shocks for Harley-Davidson feature patented Frequency Sensing Technology (FST), which dynamically adjusts damping in real time. This advanced system ensures your ride remains compliant and controlled, whether you're hitting small ripples or larger impacts. Riders can also fine-tune their setup with hand-adjustable preload.
Why riders pick this
FST dynamically adjusts damping in real time
Progressive rate response from deflective disc valving
Hand-adjustable spring preload for easy tuning
Standard or heavy-duty spring rate options
Available in black or chrome finish
Upgrade your Harley-Davidson's ride with the Progressive 444 Series shocks, engineered for superior comfort and control. The core of these shocks is their Frequency Sensing Technology (FST), which intelligently adapts damping to the road's demands. This means a consistently smooth ride, as the shocks automatically adjust to both minor road imperfections and significant bumps, optimizing oil port flow for an ideal response every time.
Dynamic Damping for Enhanced Control
Frequency Sensing Technology (FST) dynamically adjusts damping based on bump frequency
Deflective disc valving provides a progressive rate response
Hand-adjustable spring preload allows for easy tuning without special tools
Available in standard or heavy-duty spring rates to suit your riding style
Choose between black or chrome finish options
Built for the Long Haul
Designed and manufactured in the USA, the 444 Series shocks offer a significant upgrade over stock suspension. Common questions
How does Frequency Sensing Technology (FST) improve my ride?
FST automatically senses bump frequency and adjusts damping in real time, meaning the shocks respond optimally to both small bumps and large impacts, delivering a more consistent and comfortable ride.
Do I need special tools to adjust these shocks?
No, the spring preload on the Progressive 444 Series shocks is hand-adjustable, so you won't need any special tools to fine-tune your suspension.
What is the difference between standard and heavy-duty spring rates?
Standard spring rates are suitable for average loads and riding styles, while heavy-duty rates are recommended for riders who frequently carry passengers, heavy luggage, or prefer a firmer ride.

Stiff
The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
