Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.
The Progressive 444 Series shocks are specifically designed for the Indian Scout platform, incorporating Frequency Sensing Technology (FST). This advanced system dynamically adjusts damping in real time, effectively absorbing both small road chatter and larger impacts for a consistently smooth ride.

Common questions
How does Frequency Sensing Technology (FST) work?
FST senses the speed at which bumps hit the suspension and automatically adjusts damping. Small bumps receive less damping for a smoother feel, while larger impacts get more damping to prevent bottoming out, all without any rider input.
Can I adjust the preload on these shocks myself?
Yes, the Progressive 444 Series shocks feature hand-adjustable preload, allowing you to easily fine-tune your suspension for your weight, passenger, or gear without needing any special tools.
Are these shocks available in different spring rates?
Yes, these shocks are typically available in both standard and heavy-duty spring rates to best match your riding style, weight, and typical load. Please confirm your selection when ordering.

Stiff
The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
