Frequently Asked Questions

Can I adjust the preload and rebound on my own?

Yes — preload adjusts by hand threading, and rebound damping has a wrench-adjustable knob. No special tools required.

Will these work with my Touring loaded with passenger and luggage?

Yes. The progressive-rate spring and adjustable preload are designed to handle a variety of real-world loads consistently.

Are these shocks a direct bolt-on fit?

Yes — direct replacement for stock Touring shocks. Standard and bearing bushings are included to match your original mount type.

What's the difference between 494 and other Progressive shock models?

The 494 Sport Series delivers adjustable performance at a lower price point than higher-end Progressive lines, with the same monotube damping technology.

Do these shocks have any warranty?

Yes — Progressive backs these with a lifetime limited warranty against manufacturing defects.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
