About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

The Progressive 990 Sport series shocks represent the pinnacle of V-Twin suspension technology. These shocks offer an unmatched level of adjustability, putting you in complete command of your ride's dynamics.

Why riders pick this

  • Most adjustable monotube shocks in the V-Twin market
  • High and low-speed compression damping adjustment
  • Rebound damping and preload adjustable by hand
  • Adjustable ride height for personalized setup
  • Consistent performance across the entire stroke

Engineered for discerning Harley-Davidson riders, the Progressive 990 Sport series shocks are designed to provide a truly custom-tuned experience. With independent adjustments for high and low-speed compression damping, rebound damping, preload, and even ride height, you can fine-tune every aspect of your suspension directly from the rider's seat.

Unrivaled Ride Control

  • Independent high and low-speed compression damping adjustment
  • External rebound damping adjustment knob
  • Hand-adjustable spring preload for easy tuning
  • Adjustable ride height eyelet for fine-tuning stance
  • High-pressure gas monotube for consistent performance

Advanced Damping Technology

At the core of the 990 Sport series is a high-pressure monotube design combined with advanced deflective disc damping. This technology ensures a consistent feel and stable performance across the entire suspension stroke, absorbing bumps and maintaining traction with precision. The lightweight aluminum body and linear rate coil spring contribute to a responsive and controlled ride, making these shocks a top choice for any Harley-Davidson owner seeking a significant suspension upgrade.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
