About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

The Progressive 990 Sport series shock is engineered to deliver a superior riding experience for Harley-Davidson owners. It stands out as one of the most adjustable rear shocks available in the V-Twin market, offering precise control over your suspension.

Why riders pick this

  • Independent high and low-speed compression damping
  • Adjustable rebound damping with external knob
  • Hand-adjustable spring preload for convenience
  • High-pressure monotube for consistent performance
  • Lightweight aluminum construction improves handling

Designed for riders who demand the ultimate in suspension performance, the Progressive 990 Sport series shock allows for extensive tuning. Independent adjusters for high-speed and low-speed compression damping, along with rebound damping and preload, are all easily accessible via hand knobs. This means you can dial in your ride to perfection, whether you're tackling aggressive corners or enjoying a long-distance cruise.

Advanced Suspension Dynamics

  • Independent high and low-speed compression damping
  • External rebound damping adjustment for fine-tuning
  • Hand-adjustable spring preload for quick changes
  • High-pressure monotube with deflective disc damping
  • Lightweight aluminum body construction

Responsive and Stable Handling

At its core, the 990 Sport series shock features a high-pressure monotube design coupled with deflective disc damping. This combination ensures a consistent feel and stable performance throughout the entire suspension stroke, translating to improved handling and stability on your Harley-Davidson. The linear rate coil spring and captured jounce bumper further enhance the ride quality, absorbing road imperfections while maintaining composure under load. Elevate your ride with a shock that truly responds to your demands.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
