About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

Progressive 990 Sport Series shocks offer the most adjustable damping platform in the V-Twin market. With independent high and low-speed compression, rebound, and spring preload adjustments, you gain unparalleled control over your Harley's ride.

Why riders pick this

  • Most adjustable damping platform for V-Twins
  • Independent High & Low Speed compression damping
  • Adjustable rebound and spring preload
  • 0.4 inch adjustable height eyelet
  • High-pressure monotube with deflective disc damping
  • Lightweight aluminum construction

These high-pressure monotube shocks feature deflective disc damping, providing consistent performance through the full stroke. The 0.4 inch adjustable height eyelet also allows you to dial in your ride height, making these shocks truly adaptable to your setup.

Precision Tuning for Your V-Twin

  • Adjustable High & Low Speed compression damping via external knobs
  • Adjustable rebound damping for precise wheel control
  • Hand-adjustable spring preload to fine-tune sag
  • 0.4 inch adjustable height eyelet for minor ride height changes
  • High-pressure monotube with deflective disc damping
  • Lightweight aluminum body with linear rate coil spring

Engineered for Demanding Riders

Whether you're pushing hard on a Dyna, cruising on a Softail, or logging miles on a Touring model, the Progressive 990 Sport Series shocks provide the adjustability needed to optimize your suspension. These shocks are designed for riders who want to extract maximum performance and comfort, allowing for a truly custom-tuned ride experience.

Common questions

Can I adjust these shocks without tools?

Yes, compression damping, rebound damping, and spring preload are all externally adjustable via accessible knobs and hand-threaded controls, requiring no special tools for tuning.

Will these shocks fit my particular Harley model?

These shocks are designed for various Harley-Davidson Touring, Softail, and Dyna models. It's essential to verify your specific year and model using our Shop by Bike tool to ensure correct fitment before ordering.

What are the benefits of independent high and low-speed compression damping?

Independent high and low-speed compression damping allows for precise control over how the shock reacts to different types of bumps. Low-speed damping handles chassis movements and rider inputs, while high-speed damping absorbs sharp impacts, providing a more refined and controlled ride.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
