Frequently Asked Questions

Can I adjust these shocks without special tools?

Yes — High and Low Speed compression, rebound, and preload all adjust via easily accessible hand knobs and threaded adjusters. No tools required for most tuning.

What does the adjustable height eyelet do?

The 0.4 inch adjustable eyelet lets you raise or lower the rear ride height for different loads or rider preference without replacing the entire shock.

Are these shocks street legal?

Yes — Progressive shocks are designed for street use and comply with DOT regulations.

Will these fit my Sportster models before or after the 990?

This part number is specific to Harley-Davidson Sportster 990. Other Sportster generations require different Progressive shock part numbers.

How do I know which settings to start with?

Progressive includes adjustment guidelines with the shocks. Start with baseline settings and fine-tune compression, rebound, and preload based on your weight and riding style.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
