About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

Elevate your Harley-Davidson Sportster's performance with Progressive 990 Sport Series shocks. These high-pressure monotube shocks offer fully adjustable high and low speed compression, rebound, preload, and ride height, giving you complete control over your ride. Experience consistent feel and improved stability through every turn and bump.

Why riders pick this

  • Fully adjustable High & Low Speed compression damping
  • Adjustable rebound and hand-adjustable preload
  • 0.4 inch adjustable ride height eyelet
  • High-pressure monotube with deflective disc damping
  • Lightweight aluminum body with linear rate coil spring

The Progressive 990 Sport Series shocks are engineered for riders who demand ultimate adjustability and performance from their Sportster. Featuring deflective disc damping through dual circuits, these shocks provide a consistent and controlled feel across the entire suspension stroke. All adjustments, including high and low speed compression, rebound, and preload, are easily accessible via hand knobs and adjusters, allowing for quick tuning without special tools.

Dial In Your Sportster's Performance

  • Adjustable High & Low Speed compression damping
  • Adjustable rebound damping for precise control
  • Hand-adjustable spring preload for varying loads

Transform Your Sportster's Handling

With its lightweight aluminum body and linear rate coil spring, the 990 Sport Series sheds weight while delivering robust performance. The captured jounce bumper ensures smooth bottoming resistance, further enhancing ride quality. These shocks are an ideal upgrade for Sportster owners looking to significantly improve their bike's handling, stability, and overall riding experience, whether on the street or at the track.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
