Nothing but problems

Sena is trash, nothing but problems. Read the forums, including Sena's own, and you will see nothing but problems, including the latest breakage of voice commands. Using voice commands via Siri, or Google, is a huge safety feature for riders. If Shoei only supports one model of comms and they do not hold their partners to quality standards, then this is shame on Shoei as well. This pretty much ensures this is my second and last Neotec and last Sena product.

Designed for bare hands. Speech recognition a joke.

Pro: communication functions work well. Battery charge life is good. I'm getting around 24hrs of charge using it 2 hours per day. The fit in a Neotec 3 helmet is very clean and straightforward.

Con: using this unit with virtually any type of glove is impossible. I mostly ride with Klim induction summer weight gloves and trying to do simple tasks like turning the unit on while riding (because I forgot to turn it on before I gloved up) is almost impossible. Buttons are too small and indistinguishable from each other with gloves (other than surgical type gloves).
The voice control software is VERY poorly written. If you forget the exact syntax, there's NO HELP FUNCTION ("Hey Sena Help", result = dead air, "Hey Sena Commands, or List Commands", etc. = dead air. "Hey Sena Battery" = dead air, "Hey Sena CHECK Battery" = "battery level is high {medium, low}". Programming a speech recognition system with no synonyms for their reserved words is a MAJOR FAIL. You MUST use their exact syntax or you'll get no response.
Misc.: the boom microphone will be pressed against your lips if you want to close (and latch/lock) the chin bar. Otherwise, it interferes with the helmet's ability to latch/lock in full face configuration. I'm used to this now, so it doesn't make me crazy anymore.
Had I known about the "cons" above, I never would have purchased this very expensive communication device. Especially the poor implementation of the buttons.

Looks great, works great, support awful

I watched a good number of videos on installation of the SRL4 into my brand new Shoei Neotec3. I have always used Sena. The smh10. With the clip and wart that hangs off the side. Worked great did. But when the opportunity came along to buy the integrated Sena SRL3 I went for it. This is not an inexpensive arrangement. $900 helmet, $300 com system.

Installation is fairly straight forward. Lots of YouTube videos on that. (Hint.. you don't have to try and hide the wires between the liner and the shell.) The removable cheek pads do most of the hiding. Do not fully remove the top liner you don't have to do anything with it.

Installation on the SRL3 was quick and painless. The sounds quality is very good. And the way they integrate into the helmet shell is very slick. You wouldn't know they were even there if not for the blue blinking light. I haven't tried mesh mode as I ride alone most of the time. But it seems stupid simple.

My biggest beef comes with Sena support. Their isn't any

Does not work while charging!

I've used Sena comms for over 10 years (10s, 20s, and a 50) and so have never had to consider that a comms would actually have a built-in 'feature' that automatically turns off the comms when you plug it in to a charger. Of course, since it's installed already, I can no longer return this.

What's the point of making a comms unit for helmet like a Shoei Neotec 3 that you can't even operate continuously past 6-8 hours? That makes this useless for touring.

Unfortunately this headset also doesn't allow for the use of wired buds (once again something that my 10s, 20s, and 50 did).

If you're planning on anything other than short joyrides or commuting, steer far clear of this.

Very good bluetooth

So far I like this bluetooth system, seems to work well and sound is good. I have the previous generation on my Shoei air 2 and never had any problems with it therefore I don't expect any with this one. Only negative is getting charger to connect to wifi for updates.

SENA SRL3

I like it. It integrates very well with the Shoei Neotec 3. Much easer to install than my last SENA in a Neotec 1. I wish software updates could be made via cellular instead of WiFi; that'd make it perfect for me.
