Common questions

Will this exhaust fit my Softail model outside the 1986-2009 range?

No, this Vance and Hines Short Shots system is precision-engineered specifically for 1986-2009 Harley-Davidson Softail chassis. Newer or older models require a different part number.

Is any cutting or welding required for installation?

No. This system is designed for direct bolt-on installation and reuses stock mounting points, making it a straightforward upgrade without modifications.

Do I need a fuel tuner with this exhaust?

While many riders install these without immediate remapping, changing to a full exhaust system often benefits from a fuel tune for optimal performance and to prevent lean conditions. Consult with your local V-twin shop or Vance and Hines for recommendations specific to your setup.

Yes, it’s true. These are the sh*t!

Harley Iron 883 2016:

My bike was fully stock, not a single OEM part. So I splurged for the:
1) V&H short shots
2) V&H Fuelpak 3
3) Arlen Ness Big Sucker 1

V&H Short Shots:
1) Install— not terrible, a little tedious but totally doable. For the most part the DIRECTIONS SUCK, but Lemmy has a good V&H exhaust install video, I watched a couple others on YouTube, and coupled that with the directions and overall it wasn’t too too bad.

2) Sound:
Believe everything you read— they sound f-ing amazing. 100% pure classic Harley-sounding badassery. Especially coming of my fart-sounding, extremely muffled factor exhaust.... These pipes sounds like thunder is idling next to you.

3)Performance:
It’s tough to say but as a whole— all three of these upgrades combined have REALLY REALLY opened up the bike. It feels like I’ve added 100cc to the engine. The throttle response is very snappy and the acceleration is significantly swifter. Also it feels torquey as hell— you can feel the bike want to jump and take off.

Dropping $1000 all at once kinda made me cringe, but damn..... I’m legit so pumped. My bike sounds pure badass and finally has some fun speed to it!

This product looks and sounds great. I highly recommmnd it.

Upon purchase of this product, i did a lot of homework on which exhust system i wanted. At looking at several options i decided to go with the Vance and Hines short shots. They look and sound even better. They gave my sportster 48 a completly different look and sound.

Great product for great price

Can't say enough good about these pipes. Were shipped to me in two days for a price no one can beat. Install went pretty smooth even with the confusing instructions. Be careful not drop exhaust nuts cause they find the best hiding spots. These are definitely loud and quiet baffles may be needed but I'll see how many complaints I get first. With need high flow intake and fuel pak with this.

Love them and hate them

I have a 2015 HD sporty 1200 custom. Bought this bike new on 2016 and this exhaust to go along with it. Since installed I have had to replace the exhaust bracket once and have the second one welded when it also broke. It cracked again so now I have to order another bracket. If you have to get this done at a shop every time it would be very costly. I’d give it 5 stars because I love these and they sound great but again with these brackets breaking every few thousand miles it hurts the pocketbook.

Great looking, sounding pipes but....

I have always loved the look and the sound of the short shots. I bought mine with the black heat shields and when I received them I was pissed because the Vance and Hines emblem was NOT chrome... other than that you can’t go wrong with these pipes. I’m telling you!
